Instead of visiting our Council Bluffs/Omaha family for July 4 (like we've done in so many years past), we decided to visit during the College World series this year. As much as Ryan loves living in the south, he misses home the most during the College World Series, held each year at Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha, Nebraska. Omaha is directly over the Missouri River from Council Bluffs, Iowa, where Ryan was born and raised; Rosenblatt Stadium is about 10 minutes from his parents' house. Now that we've lived in Baton Rouge for more than six years, we are huge LSU fans. It only took a matter of weeks after moving here to get caught up in the madness and for us to classify ourselves as LSU "ABCs", or "Alumni By Choice"! When we decided to make the trip a couple of months ago, college baseball was still mid-season. We knew that the CWS would be fun, no matter which teams made it, but hoped that the Tigers would get there, too...
We could not have imagined how much fun it would be to celebrate with the thousands of other Tiger fans in "Baton Rouge North". We met some amazing people and had a blast! Of course, as luck would have it, our vacation time ran out before the championship games, so we had to watch LSU win their 6th CWS Championship at home on TV. But being there for the first few games was incredible. And we will definitely plan our vacation days to include the END of the series next time!
