I am proud to say that Ruby Nell Newchurch Bordelon was my grandmother.
Mammaw passed away on July 9, 2009. I am grateful for the 27 years I had with her, but sad and uncertain about the rest of my life without her. I am upset that Ava will not have more memories of her and our future children will never know her kindness, her voice, her smile, her strength. Those that knew her are lucky. As a friend said when consoling me after her death, "She was the epitome of love". She is truly missed.
The following is the eulogy my sisters wrote and read at the funeral...
Mammaw truly knew what it meant to love unconditionally. She took great pride in watching us grow, and in seeing us mature. We saw ourselves in her and believe she saw her youth in us.
She is the most wonderful, most beautiful person we have ever known. In this world of uncertainties, she was our one stalwart beacon. She was the one that remained strong and faithful, never wavering, never fearing. We are the people we are today because of her gentle hand and soothing voice. Because of her patience and sheer, sublime life, she proved that it is okay to believe, to have faith.
Mammaw- You are our soul. Thank you so much for just being you. Thank you so much for being tremendous. We are better people for having known you. We love you so much, more than you will ever know. We are proud to call you OUR Mammaw.
